6 transported by LifeFlight in Lorain County crash

LORAIN COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Six people were seriously injured in an accident at the intersection of State Route 18 and Quarry Road in Wellington Township.

According to the Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 8 p.m. Friday.

Troopers say Mark Zacharias, 56, of Wellington, was driving westbound on SR 18, when his pickup truck struck a vehicle headed northbound on Quarry Road in the intersection.

Both Zacharias and his passenger, Elizabeth Zacharias, 55, were transported to Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin, Ohio, and later flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital.

Madeline Humphrey, 20, of Elkins, West Virginia, was driving the other vehicle. She and her three passengers, Paige Gorsuch, 21, Rose Sepsey and Andrew Heim, were all flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital in critical condition.

All four occupants are students of Ashland University.

Authorities say it's unknown if alcohol was involved in the crash or if the drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts.

An investigation is ongoing.
