DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Some farmers finally got back in their wet fields for the first time all week.

Friday was the first day in a while crews were able to plant watermelon and squash at Mark's Melon Patch.

They do have some watermelons for sale from Florida. Owner Mark Daniel says they won't harvest any until June.

He says they've gotten 15 inches of rain since April 1st. The rain and cool weather will delay the watermelon harvest for a few days.

"Once it gets dry enough to plant we go into the night or whatever we have to do because usually it starts raining at midnight," said Daniel. "We just try to watch the weather and plant as late as we possible can and let the soil dry out as much as possible."

Daniel says the milder weather expected next week will help speed things up.
