Memories from 2014: Sylvester Local informs generations of Worth Countians
SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -
The oldest business in Worth County and has been around for 130 years.
The Sylvester Local was established in 1884 as the Sumner Free Trader.
The business produces a weekly newspaper which used to be printed in Sylvester on Kelly Street, though the printing plant is now in Ocilla.
Owner John Porter credits their success to persistence. "Cut all the corners that we can," he said. "Do as limited staff as we can. The technology has changed to the point where we don't have to have any of the employees that we use to have years ago."
The Sylvester Local also produced the area's community magazine, which was recently updated.
