Event Raises Funds for CancerFree KIDS, Pediatric Cancer Research

DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio, April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With just a few steps, you can make a difference for CancerFree KIDS, a non-profit in Cincinnati that raises funds for pediatric cancer research.  Entering its eighth year, the Butterfly Walk, 5K and Fun Festival announced its 2014 scheduled activities today.

The family-friendly event again will be hosted at Cottel Park in Deerfield Township, Ohio on May 10.  The day will be full of festivities and games for families with the purpose to raise a goal of over $125,000 for CancerFree KIDS.  The day will include the following activities for people of all ages to participate:

  • 5K Run
  • Pediatric Cancer Survivor Ceremony
  • One-mile Inspirational Walk
  • 1/4 Mile Junior Jog
  • Family Fun Festival with Music, Food, Games and Activities for Kids of all ages

Activities will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the 10th with registration for an expected field of over 700 runners for the 5K Run.  Following the run, the event will host a special recognition of over 40 children cancer survivors for their battles with cancer. Finally, over 2,000 people will join together for a one-mile Inspirational Walk. The day will host over 2,500 people making a difference with 100% of proceeds going to fund pediatric cancer research.  The Butterfly Walk has already raised over $490,000 for pediatric cancer research since its inception in 2007.

Anthem BlueCross BlueShield will be the presenting sponsor of the event and join major sponsors such as Eckrich, CBTS, CHARD SNYDER and Deerfield Township along with other supporting sponsors such as Coho Creative, Maddie's Hope, US Union Savings Bank, Sunny Delight Beverages, FLEET FEET Sports, Kroger, Intersport, NixCo Plumbing, Clear Channel and Norton.  In addition, over 20 booths and activities from local businesses and community support groups will be present in the Park. 

Eckrich will have its mobile sampling unit on site for people to enjoy their smoked sausage and hot dogs. The organizers of the Butterfly Walk, 5K and Fun Festival are excited for this year's event.
