AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Americus fire officials say lightning is also what sparked a fire at a local business early Wednesday morning.   Lightning hit the roof of the building as storms rolled through the area.

Americus firefighters spotted flames shooting through the roof of New Beginnings on Anthony Drive when they responded around 5:00.

Chief Allen Erkhart says firefighters were able to contain the damage to that area. "I went over there a while ago, about thirty minutes ago and they were still in school, so it was real minor damage. It was very lucky."

Crews responded within four minutes. There were no injuries.
