ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Lightning is to blame for a fire that broke out inside a home in Northwest Albany Wednesday morning. This is the second fire in Albany this week sparked by lightning.

Fire officials say lightning struck a tree on Northwood drive before transferring to the roof of the home, catching the utility room on fire.

The flames were confined to the room, only damaging the items inside.

Lightning struck a tree Tuesday, it exploded and landed on top of Windsor Apartment's roof.

"The main thing is pay attention to your local news, make sure you're inside, take cover when severe weather approaches and just be aware," said Assistant Albany Fire Chief Rubin Jordan.

The two homeowners and their child were inside the home when the fire broke out. All three were able to make it out safely.
