    An overnight crash involving semi truck turned deadly on Interstate 75 in Crisp County.According to Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock, a car suffered a blowout and came to a rest in the traffic lane of I-75 south near exit 94.While awaiting assistance from a deputy, a tractor trailer slammed into the back of the car. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and killed.It happened around 1:45 AM.The truck driver was not seriously injured.The Georgia State Patrol and the GDOT are investigating.T...More >>

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A distemper outbreak at the Albany Humane Society shelter has veterinarians urging dog owners to make sure their pets are vaccinated.

The shelter is shut down and all 92-animals are under quarantine while officials work to control the outbreak.

Distemper is a highly-contagious respiratory illness. Dr. Steve Whatley at Bush Animal Clinic says he hasn't seen a case of distemper in years.

He says the vaccine works well to protect pets.

"Very contagious it's transmitted mainly by respiratory secretion from one dog to the next and if that happens and they're not vaccinated then you can bet they are going to get it," said Dr. Steve Whatley, Veterinarian for Bush Animal Clinic. 

The Humane Society isn't sure how many of the animals are infected. They don't yet know how many may have to be euthanized.

No animals will be accepted at the shelter and none will be adopted until the facility is clear of the illness.
