LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

If you were thinking that we have seen more days with dust across the South Plains this year, you would be correct.

So far in 2014, we have experienced 29 days where dust or sand has reduced visibilities to less than half a mile at the Lubbock International Airport.

Last year, during the same time, we experienced only 14 days with dust storm conditions observed at the airport between January and April.

In 2012, we had 17 days.

2011 experienced 18 days with visibilities less than half a mile and 2010 was the last year we had decent rainfall.

In 2010, we only had 8 days with blowing dust observed at the airport for the first four months of the year.

Breaking the statistics down month by month, we had 3 dust events in January; 2 in February; 14 days in March and 10 so far in April.

This has more than doubled the number of days we experienced last year between January and February.
