ATC hosts annual spring honors day program

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Technical College honored some of its best students and teachers today. Family and friends gathered in the Kirkland Conference Center for the spring honors day program.

About 80 students and two teachers earned awards.Lee County native Steven Smith, who is the Associate superintendent for Atlanta Public schools, was the guest speaker.

He talked about the importance of following your dreams.

"Making sure they understand how important it is working toward their goals, but also doing it with integrity and I think the number of people I've had a chance to interact with today, they really exemplify the kind of graduate that Albany tech can be proud of," says Steven Smith.

Albany Tech's spring graduation will be this Friday night at the civic center.

    Wednesday afternoon, Alma Police Department assisted the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office with a ‘burglary in-progress’ call on Corinth Church Road.  A resident in the neighborhood noticed a would-be burglar outside of her home and alerted law enforcement.  Tim Taylor, 33 of Alma, took off from that location before officers arrived.  Teams of officers and deputies searched the nearby woods, and soon found Taylor, and apprehended him.
