VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Information from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office-

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate that occurred at the Lowndes County Jail around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. It was reported that inmates were in their cells and an officer checked the cell at 2:00.

When the officer returned to the cell, he found Paul John Wadman had hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet. Wadman was unresponsive and the officer immediately initiated life saving efforts and requested assistance.

Other officers and nurses immediately went to the cell to render medical aid as paramedics were also notified.

Wadman was in general population but assigned to an individual cell with no other cellmate. The cell in which Paul Wadman was being housed was secured and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Lowndes County Coroner's Office were notified.

The GBI is conducting an investigation into the death and an autopsy will be conducted. Investigators have contacted Paul Wadman's family and notified them of the death and the on-going investigation.

Wadman was arrested on April 17, 2014 by the Valdosta Police Department and charged with Driving under the influence.
