MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

A Colquitt County family of four is staying with relatives tonight after a fire ripped through their home. Two firefighters were also hurt while battling the blaze.

Morning rain beat down on the home which just hours earlier was in flames.

"It's hard now because they lived there a bunch of years," said William Martin, the victim's brother.

Lewis Martin, his wife, Lynn, and two teenaged children live in the house on Highway 270 outside Doerun that caught fire around 8 Monday night. They weren't home at the time and Martin's brother broke the news to them.

"He was actually fishing and I had called him and said hey I heard your house was on fire and he said 'oh, oh'," said William.

Family members say it's a total loss, they say there's nothing left to salvage.

"Everything on the inside, I asked my brother this morning and said uh, is there anything that could be salvaged?," said William. "and he said it was zero."

Sheriff's investigators say it's possible that a grease fire Monday damaged electrical wiring in the kitchen. The damaged wires then sparked a second fire in the ceiling.

Now, Lewis Martin's family is reaching out for help. They're asking for anyone with clothing, linens, or furnishing to spare.

"They really need help," said William. "So, if anybody wants to help them, I know they would appreciate it."

In the meantime, they'll stay with their family. If you would like to help out the family, you can call Lewis' parents at 229-921-2808.

The two firefighters hurt responding to the fire only sustained minor injuries. One hurt their shoulder and the other twisted an ankle.
