MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Colquitt County officials are getting their roads ready to handle more rain this week.  Ditches are being pulled around the 350 miles of dirt roads in anticipation of the rain over the next couple of days.

The soggier than usual weather this month has caused some to become messy and sometimes not drivable.

But Officials say last week's dry weather has helped. The roads are mostly in good shape and will be easier to manage as the rain moves in.

"We can get them open back up for the rain, just trying to get good drainage, so you know the water comes over the road and just try to make it passable for everybody right now," Stan Kirksey, Colquitt Co. Assistant Road Superintendent.

"If the rain comes at four inches, we can probably handle it because it comes at a slow rate, but it hurts us when it comes all at one time," said  Russell Moody, Colquitt Co. Emergency Management Director.

Officials across South Georgia say they're also seeing mud bogging with the recent rains. But warn, It can damage the roads and costs taxpayers money to repair.
