Early voting kicks off Monday

Supervisor of Elections, Ginger Nickerson Supervisor of Elections, Ginger Nickerson

Monday, early voting for the state primaries will open up, but before you head out there are a couple of things to remember.

To participate in any type official voting, you need to show that you are a resident in that area you are voting in. A Georgia drivers license is valid (even if expired) you may also bring a passport, military or travel ID or even a ID issued from another state as long as you reside in Georgia.

Supervisor of Elections, Ginger Nickerson, encourages everyone to come out and vote, she says its their job to ensure that they have the equipment and everything you need to cast your ballot and they don't want to turn anyone away.

"It gives voters an option to choose whether or not they want to wait on election day if they think they are going to be out town or they already made up their mind they can come on in and cast that ballot," Nickerson said.

This past weekend residents in the Dougherty County area had the opportunity to actually hear from candidates running for election, that includes those running for DOCO Commission, School Board and the State House.

"We want everyone to come out to vote," Nickerson said. "We want candidates to campaign to attract the voters to voter for them but its our job to make sure we have the equipment and everything ready for them."
