RoseMott Vineyard will open May 10th

HARTSFIELD, GA (WALB) -

Another addition to the Georgia Grown Trail promoting agri-tourism is about to be complete.

It's a new tasting room for wine made right here in South Georgia.

The greatest challenge to creating the RoseMott Vineyard was getting grapes to grow well in Colquitt County. The DeMott family overcame that challenge and they are putting the sweet finishing touches on The Winery at Gin Creek.

The doors to the RoseMott vineyard will open to the public on May 10th. The DeMott family turned this old storage barn into a wine tasting room, but it's been quite a challenge.

"Keeping it as originally as we possibly could, so when people come to visit us they can see the originality of what our daddy and granddaddy built ninety-years ago," said Doug DeMott, co-owner.

Doug DeMott says he's proud to have preserved the character of the old barn.

"The authenticity of the building, I look up and I see what they created and we brought that back to life so that means so much to me," said DeMott.

The only thing they had to change inside the barn was adding the tasting room bar.

"We didn't want to disturb the structure of the building, so we left it in tact with the flooring, all this stuff is original," said Doug DeMott.

The wine tasting barn will be open six days a week, eleven am to six pm Monday through Friday and on Saturday eleven am to eight pm, but these times are not set in stone.

"We can adjust these times according to how things flow, if we see where there is a need to alternate the times a little bit then we will do so," said DeMott.

He says no matter what happens with RoseMott vineyard, it has already been a great success.

"For us to turn it in and bring it back to life, it's just the greatest feeling in the world to us, it means a lot," said DeMott.

The Packhouse Tasting Room opens at noon on Saturday May 10th with live music, food and giveaways.
