Downtown Albany leaders have said for years, private development will be the key to transforming downtown Albany. That long-awaited investment may finally be coming.
Recently, the Albany Dougherty Inner City Authority agreed to invest 300-thousand dollars in a partnership with a private developer from Charlotte, North Carolina. Shandon Developments Incorporated is already working on a Waffle House downtown. Their master plan includes a hotel, apartments overlooking the river, a bowling alley, more retailers, and new convention space in the old mule barn.
Everything in the dream plan may not happen, but this represents the biggest hope in years to make downtown Albany what it should be. We're glad ADICA made the investment and we hope and believe it will pay off.
