ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Northwest Albany neighborhood watch group is hoping to get new members in light of recent crime in their area.  Sherwood Acres Neighborhood Watch members say they are not going to put up with crime in their neighborhood.

"This is our neighborhood.  This is where we live.  I do not want to be frightened of where I live," Doris Hines said.

Tuesday night's stabbing death of a teen happened just around the corner; something they never have seen this close. "You want to find out exactly what happened.  It was just really upsetting.  Just to know this happened in our neighborhood," Craig Maples said.

Several entering autos were also reported that night a couple of blocks away.  Plans for their Neighborhood Watch group  to expand to a wider area, and bring in more neighbors were already underway.

They say these crimes point out why it is needed now. "We want to get everybody that's interested.  If we had one person in each block.  Listening and watching, can you imagine what it would do?" Hines said.

The Neighborhood Watch wants people who live between Stuart Avenue to Dawson Road, from Nottingham Way to Hilltop Drive, to come join their group.  They will meet at Sherwood Acres Elementary School Monday, April 28th, at 6 PM.

They want to organize neighbors to protect their homes and their streets, hoping to stop any other crimes like they have seen this week.
