Couple arrested in Sylvester will return to Mississippi

SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

The couple arrested after a multi-state search and Amber Alert have agreed to return to Mississippi, where they face felony charges.

Donald B. Harris and Allison Studdard were wanted by authorities after they left Lowndes County, MS with a toddler in the wake of an infant that had died.

The couple and child were found and stopped by Sylvester Police just after 12 a.m. Thursday at the EZ Stop on East Franklin.

According to a report, the couple did not resist, and were arrested without incident. The child was found in the back seat of the vehicle in a child safety seat, but was unrestrained.

Sylvester Police were watching the roads for a Pontiac Aztec after the Amber Alert was issued late Wednesday. Just after midnight, they saw a vehicle similar to the one listed in the alert, and officers pulled the driver over.

The child Maliah, who was not harmed, has been placed into custody with the Division of Family and Children Services. Officials said they will look for other family members to place the child with.

Mississippi authorities placed fugitive warrants for Harris and Studdard because of possession of meth charges. The Lowndes County, MS Sheriff has agreed to pick them up in Sylvester.

Harris and Studdard are in the Worth County Jail. They have waived extradition and voluntarily be transported back to Mississippi. Authorities said they do not know if the couple was headed to Lenox, but believe they were planning to see family in Cook County.

Meanwhile, investigators have not determined there was any foul play in the death of the 7-month-old infant that died.

Sylvester Police issued this release:

On April 24, 2014 at approximately 12:02 a.m., a 2002 Pontiac Aztec, matching the description of a vehicle being looked for through and Amber alert, was noticed by Sylvester Police Officers.

Corporal Jonathan Luna, Patrolman Paul Klein, and Patrolman Adam Celinski initiated a stop of the vehicle on East Franklin Street in Sylvester.  W/M Donald B. Harris and W/F Allison Studdard were arrested, without incident, on Possession of Methamphetamine charges out of Mississippi.

The 2 year old minor child, also in the vehicle, was checked out by Medical personnel and was released into the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.

Harris and Studdard were transported to the Worth County Jail where they will remain until the extradition process finalized and they will return to Mississippi on the outstanding charges.
