Some DCSS educators face termination

Posted: Updated:
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

More than a dozen Dougherty County teachers are facing termination.

Wednesday school board members discussed personnel behind closed doors. 13 teachers have been given non-renewal notices.

School board attorney Tommy Coleman says this number is higher than normal.

"We're making people accountable for their actions. The principals are more active in making sure that the teachers are doing what they need to do. And Dr Mosely is in making sure that they're accountable. So from the school board all the way down to everyone in our system we're making them more accountable," said school board member Velvet Riggins.

9 of the 13 educators have tenure, meaning they have a right to a hearing.

They have 20 days to respond to the letter and have the option to resign. At least two have already requested hearings.
