Albany Tech hosts big career fair

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of job seekers got some face time with dozens of employers at an Albany Technical College Career fair.

The Career Services Department hosted 50 companies for the spring hiring event Wednesday. The three hour fair was mostly geared for students, but also open to the community.

One job seeker who's been actively looking for employment for over a month said one-on-one time with employers could finally pay off.

"Networking is definitely a huge part in establishing your career," said Whitney Sands, Albany Tech Student and Job Seeker. "So with me going around and trying to meet everybody and getting my name and face out has definitely been important."

The fair ran from 9am to noon. Organizers say the event helps navigate a tough job market. "I think education itself helps with unemployment," said Judy Jimmerson, Career Services Assoc. Vice President.

"So for those students who want to come out to Albany Tech and obtain skills that will help them become employable or more employable, then Albany Tech is a wonderful place to start."

Jimmerson said about 500 students come to the school's job fairs every spring and fall. She said the event features five new employers, some coming as far away as Columbus.

Companies hoping to participate in upcoming job fairs are encouraged to contact the Career Services Department.
