ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Timothy Banthongsack was arrested Tuesday evening for snatching the tip jar at Carrol's Meats on Philema Road.

APD says that officers responded in emergency mode to 118 Philema Road on  in reference to a possible a robbery.

They were told that a man wearing a white shirt and black pants was seen running from the area.

The manager says she caught him shoplifting peanut brittle late Wednesday afternoon.  When she challenged him, he put it down on the counter and said he was sorry.  Moments later he came back, grabbed the jar with about $30 in it, and apologized again as he walked out.

APD officers and Dougherty Co. sheriff deputies searched the area, and soon found Timothy Banthongsack. He was taken into custody at the intersection of Barfield and Jewel Street.

"Said the same thing the second time he was leaving.  Said he was sorry.  You usually don't have someone like that say they are sorry on their way out like that," said butcher Chip Hobby.

Nearby business owners say he's been begging for food and money in the area.

Carroll's employees say they would have given him something to eat-- if he had just told them he was hungry.

He was charged with Robbery by Sudden Snatching.
