MH370: Object found on coast not related to lost plane

(RNN) - The "object of interest" found on the coast of western Australia is not related to the lost plane, Australian authorities revealed Thursday morning.

"After examining detailed photographs of material washed ashore 10 kilometers east of Augusta, it is satisfied it is not a lead in relation to the search for missing flight MH370," the Australian Transport Safety Bureau said.

The object was described as a torn and misshapen piece of sheet metal with rivets, coated with fiberglass. It was found Wednesday about 190 miles south of Perth, Australia, CNN reported.

Meanwhile, the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 continued Thursday. Australian authorities stated that as many as 11 military aircraft and 11 ships were scheduled to assist in Thursday's search for the missing plane.

Bluefin-21, a high-tech U.S. Navy autonomous underwater vehicle, is finishing its 12th mission in the underwater search area beneath the Indian Ocean. Although it has scanned more than 90 percent of the search area, it hasn't detected anything of interest.

The flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing has been lost since March 8, with 239 people on board.

No confirmed debris from the plane has yet been found, despite many false leads, including an oil slick that was determined not to be from the plane.
