Wiregrass career fair packed with hopeful job seekers

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Jameshia Bartee graduated from Wiregrass in December with a Phlebotomy degree, but so far hasn't had any luck landing a job.

She says the job market is proving to be tougher than she expected. "I thought it would be easy when I graduated, but I found out it was not," Bartee said.

Bartee said even the jobs that are available in her field aren't located in or around Valdosta, making the job search even harder.

"Most jobs near Atlanta area, but not here in Valdosta. So, Imma keep lookin', not givin' up."

With 41 businesses and six colleges in attendance, the career fair was packed with job seekers. But Jameshia said she's confident the career fair will help turn her luck around. "I believe it has made me more confident because if you don't try, you won't get it; you gotta go out there to get the job or you won't get the job," Bartee expressed.

And that's exactly why she came to the career fair today.

"I came to the career fair today to look for a job and look for other careers that I may be interested in gettin' in because it's hard to get a job with what I'm doin' now."

There's no guarantee that the job market will get any better any time soon, which makes these career fairs all the more valuable for job seekers like Jameshia.
