Albany Special Olympian slated for 2014 USA Games

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

With information from The Albany Recreation and Parks Department-

Special Olympian, Tyechia Luster, has been selected to represent "Team Georgia" in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in New Jersey, June 14-21.  

Nearly 3,500 athletes will compete in 16 Olympic-style team and individual sports, with the support of 1,000 coaches, 10,000 volunteers, and 70,000 family, friends and spectators. 

Tyechia will participate in the bocce competition in three competitions in bocce: singles, doubles, and team.   

Special Olympics Georgia is accepting donations to help offset the expenses to send Tyechia to the 2014 USA Games.   You can make a donation at http://fundraising.specialolympicsga.org/2014/albanyusagames/

Checks should be made payable to Special Olympics Georgia and sent to the state office at 4000 Dekalb Technology Parkway, Suite 400 Building 400, Atlanta, GA 30340.    

The Albany Recreation and Parks Department received accreditation for their Special Olympics program form Special Olympics Georgia in 2008.  They provide Olympic-like sporting competition for adult individuals (21 and older) with intellectual disabilities in Albany – Dougherty County, GA. 

This is their first athlete selected to Team Georgia and to attend the USA Games.
