The Dougherty Trojans weren't afraid to mix things up with their starting lineup Monday afternoon.
Head coach Ty Hayes started two girls against crosstown rival Monroe.
Senior RaKeta Shelton started at third base, while junior Takiya Davis made her second start at second.
Davis says he's needed some players, and decided to turn to the pair he coaches with the Lady Trojans softball team.
"It's not taking a chance. They're athletes. They know how to play," Hayes said before Monday's game. "They do it in softball all the time. The only difference is the ball is a little smaller, so they can handle it."
Hayes says people won't think it's a strange move after they see the duo play. Shelton agrees.
"Sometimes you have girls that are better than boys," she says.
Shelton and Davis fared okay in Monday's game against Monroe. Shelton went 0-1 with a strikeout, while Davis drew a walk.
The Tornadoes blew out the Trojans though, 17-1 in four innings.
