County library roof leaks, leaders may spend $750,000 to replace it

Dougherty County leaders may soon spend three-quarters of a million dollars to replace a county library roof.

The Public Library Director told commissioners the Northwest Branch Library is in dire need of a roof replacement during Monday's commission meeting. She said water leaked in the main part of the building and in the children's wing during recent storms.

Commissioners discussed moving Special Local Option Sales Taxes to from library improvements funds to pay for the repairs.

"There's evidence of streaks down the wall when it rains," said Dougherty County Public Library Director Pauline Abidde. "Our facilities department will come out and do what they can, but it really does need a roof replacement at this point."

Abidde said the building is over 25 years old. She said the leaky roof hasn't damaged any books or equipment. She hopes to have the project bid out as soon as SPLOST funds become available.

Commissioners will vote on the recommendation at their next meeting.
