Flooding hits South Georgia roads

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County officials have put up signs warning drivers and are urging people to not drive on three roads Friday night.

Willson Road between the farm and the church, which is not a heavily traveled but is closed tonight because of standing water. South County Line Road near Moultrie Road and Spring Flats Road. Dougherty County Public Works will be keeping watch on these roads and other flooding through the night.

"We've got crews out this evening.  They'll be working throughout the night," said Dougherty County Public Work Assistant Director Chucky Mathis. "Trying to move this water out so we can protect homes and properties.

Drivers are urged to use caution driving and turn around if you encounter standing water fully across the road than to take a chance driving through it.

    A U.S. Airman pulled off the surprise of a lifetime for his sister this weekend. Jakeria Florence graduated from Mitchell County High School Friday night. Scarlette M Wimberly She did not think her brother, Airman 1st Class Jason Florence, would make it to her graduation. He's been stationed in Alaska for more than two years.
