ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Police Department wants the community to be on alert following more thefts of valuables out of cars.

"We are having difficulty in the west district with entering autos, on the 17th we had 7 occur," said Albany PD media manager Phyllis Banks.

3 of those car break-ins took place on Candy Mill drive and in one instance a handgun was stolen.

"There are so many illegal firearms on the streets and unfortunately mine may become one of them," said victim Javier Johnson. "I just pray it won't be used to commit a crime."

APD is increasing its patrols in the Western District to ward off potential crooks.

If you would like to get Nixle alerts to notify you of increases of criminal activity in your area from APD text 3837NHWA.
