A Fitzgerald veterinarian is sending a reminder to protect your cats and dogs against rabies.
A state law requires pets to be vaccinated against rabies starting at 3 months old. Doctor Dwain Smith will hold a rabies clinic at Blue and Gray Park on South Sherman St. For $10 a pet, you can protect them from the fatal, viral disease. Smith says pets need to have the shot once a year.
"Especially in the spring because that's when wild animals become more active and out. We become more active in the county and outdoors. That increases the exposure for dogs and cats to the wild population and therefore to us," said Dr. Dwain Smith.
Smith says it's also a good idea to vaccinate horses. The rabies clinic will be from 10-2 Saturday, April 26.
Proceeds from the clinic will help the Ben Hill County 4-H club.
