VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn now has a better idea of just how important food banks are to South Georgia.

Nunn requested a tour of the Second Harvest food bank in Valdosta. It's part of her initiative to highlight organizations across Georgia that are giving back to their community.

She says she was excited to tour the facility.

"I hope to be able to highlight the many things that are working in Georgia," explained Nunn. "The great spirit of optimism that drives a place like Second Harvest that tries to make a difference. The thousands of volunteers that are engaged in coming together and the lessons we can learn from Georgians who are getting things done and doing things."

Second Harvest has invited all of Georgia's U.S. Senate candidates to tour the food bank.
