Gaines opens campaign HQ

Dougherty County Commission chairman candidate Gloria Gaines says jobs are the number one issue in this year's election.

An enthusiastic crowd was cheering Gloria Wednesday as Gaines opened her campaign headquarters on South Slappey Boulevard.

Gaines served six years on the commission before stepping down last month to run for the chairman's seat.

Gaines says attracting new jobs to the county will solve another problem.  "We have lost population over the last ten years, and a large part of that was due to the fact that we lost jobs.  People have to go where the jobs are," said Gaines.

Gaines will face Chris Cohilas in the May 20th primary elections.

Early voting for the primary elections begin on April 28th.
