Grady County lake construction is behind schedule

Posted: Updated:

Work on an $8.9 million dollar project to build a 960-acre lake in Grady County is progressing slower than hoped.

Bad weather has delayed construction on the mile and a quarter long dam that will create Tired Creek Lake.

It will be a recreational area county leaders believe will attract visitors. "We're not a reservoir. We're not impounding water for consumption. This is a fishing lake, and we just want the people of Grady County and our surrounding counties, we want everyone to enjoy it," said County Commission Chairman T.D. David.

An official groundbreaking on the project was held in September.

Officials hoped to open the lake by the end of this year. Now, they say it won't be finished until early next year.
