ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

With warmer weather approaching termites can do a lot of damage to your home.

Termites can cause over $5 billion in structural damage each year which is more than storms and fires combined. Most termite damage is not covered by homeowners insurance. Local exterminators say most termite damage occurs in our home where we would least see it.

"Just because you're walking across that floor or even that baseboard or sheet rock looks pretty. They can still be there and that's why it's very important to have an annual termite inspection on the house and a guarantee on the house," said Heath Bass.

Bass says using a Sentricon System can prevent your home from becoming a target for termites and that you shouldn't stack firewood or lumber near your home. You should also eliminate moist areas around your home that are known to attract termites.
