ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany church is delivering meals to combat hunger in the community.

Sherwood Baptist Church held their food giveaway in East Albany today. Each church member delivered food boxes from the Second Harvest Food bank and hams to five families in need. Organizers say it's important to help others in the community.

"We need to be a blessing to our community and especially in times like this, churches have got to reach out and go beyond the walls. So, this is just one of the ways that we can do that is to reach out to our community and say hey we love Albany, Georgia and we want to be a blessing to you in these times," said John Spencer.

Sherwood does these food distributions several times throughout the year.
