ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Heritage bank will hold their annual community Shred-A-Thon at their location on Westover Boulevard tomorrow.

You can bring your tax records, old check books, and mail to be shredded safely. More than 13 million Americans became victims of identity theft last year. Dumpster diving is one of the main ways crooks get your information.

"They get your name, they get your address and if it has your bank account information on it or your social security. They've really hit a diamond. So that information is what they need and then they can open accounts in your name," said Heather Nichols.

The Shred-A-Thon is free and runs from 9 till noon.
