    Work is now underway to widen about two, and half miles of Carpenter Road in Tifton.When construction is complete, there will be two lanes of traffic in each direction, plus a center turn lane with curbs and gutters on both sides of the road.Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route.The work is expected to be complete in October.Copyright 2014 WALB. ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Darton State College kicked off a 4-day fundraiser for the athletic department.       

Teams from the college and the community prepared barbeque dinners for the "Barebeque Night Out" fundraiser at the old Beef O'Brady's Restaurant on Gillonville Road. The athletic department hopes to raise more than $8,000 for scholarships.  

"Really we're just looking for unique ways to do it. Everybody is always looking for something unique to do in Albany, something exciting. We thought this would be an opportunity to do it," said Glenn Eames.       

The fundraiser continues Friday and next Thursday and Friday and includes live entertainment.      Tickets are $25 or $15 with a group of 8 or more. You can purchase tickets by calling 229-869-1957.
