Lattimore set for 'second-year step', says NFL analyst

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

San Francisco 49ers running back and former Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore should be ready to take a big leap forward this upcoming football season, says an analyst with NFL.com.

According to Senior NFL Media Analyst Gil Brandt, Lattimore should "get some crunch-time carries this season and become the starter by 2015, when [current RB Frank] Gore is set to hit free agency."

Lattimore, of course, spent last season with the 49ers recovering from a serious knee injury he sustained during his final collegiate season with the Gamecocks.

The former South Carolina player was picked up in the fourth round of last year's NFL Draft, but did not play one snap all season.

"I think San Francisco is about to be rewarded for its patience. Lattimore is a tough, one-cut runner with great instincts, exactly the type of power back the 49ers like to run with," said Brandt.

To finish off his analysis, Brandt predicts Lattimore will run for 650 yards and six touchdowns this season.
