Dougherty County School Board members made a wise decision when they voted Monday to hire interim superintendent Dr. David Mosely permanently.
More than a year ago, Mosely took over a demoralized school system that was in disarray. It was reeling from the CRCT cheating scandal and was in danger of losing millions of federal dollars because of mismanagement.
Mosely went to work fixing problems to make sure the system didn't lose that federal money. He improved the working relationship with state Department of Education leaders. He made a commitment to hire top quality teachers. Most importantly, he changed the culture, holding workers accountable and boosting morale.
He's done a good job turning the system around, and it's a good thing for students in Dougherty County that he will continue that work.
