HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Officers said a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt broke into a home around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

The victim told police that he was asleep in the front room of his home on the 1800 block of Chapman Avenue when he was startled by the sound of the storm door opening. He said he woke up to find the robber coming through the door.

The victim said the robber demanded money and threatened him with a framing hammer. The 60-year-old victim was able to flee out of the back door, where neighbors heard his calls for help.

Police said the robber fled the area and the victim was not injured.

A burglary happened at a nearby home just 15 minutes after this incident. It is unknown if these crimes are connected at this time.
