COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) -

We're learning new details about the arrest of a missing sex offender who spent two years on the run.

Officers with the Moultrie Crime Suppression Unit were helping the Sheriff's office look for a black dodge neon connected to a burglary investigation.  They spotted Mario Haynes near that car on 7th Avenue NorthWest Wednesday afternoon. Turns out he wasn't connected to the burglary, but officers ran his information and found Haynes was wanted.

"Mr. Haynes was on some type of probation and was tied with an ankle monitor. At some point during that month he had taken the ankle monitor office and absconded and as far as we know he hasn't had any law enforcement contact in two years," said Sgt. Daniel Lindsay.

Haynes remains in the Colquitt County jail charged with possession of marijuana, failure to register as a sex offender, and probation violation.
