ABAC showcases first of its kind rural studies program

Students interested in a rural studies at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College are learning more about the degree program.

The college held a day long rural studies symposium at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture Friday. National speakers talked with ABAC students about the importance of rural communities.

A representative from U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop's office was there to talk with symposium participants.

"We really need to empower them and educate them, enlighten them, and turn them loose to engage and really make a difference in rural America," said Michael LoBroad with Rural Media Group.

"I really learned how important the rural and local community is," said student Lindsay Patridge. "You really don't realize it until you step back and think about it."

The rural studies degree is the first at any college or university in the United States.
