ALBANY, GA - (WALB) -

An Albany business owner wants to warn you about scammers claiming to be from Georgia Power.

Jason Sheffield of Dawson Road Jewelry and Pawn says Saturday a caller claimed to be from the utility and said the store had an overdue bill and their power would be cut if Sheffield didn't give him his credit card number to make an immediate payment.

Sheffield knew his Georgia Power bill was not overdue.

"I just shut him off, and I said what's the number I can call you back at," said Sheffield.  "He gave me a number to call him back at. Gave me an order number, some sort of order number, of some kind. But it was all fakes."

Georgia Power officials say this scam is growing.

They say you should not give your credit card or financial information to a caller.

If you have questions, call Georgia Power at the number on your bill or in your phone book.
