Memorial Health invited chefs from all over the city and volunteers from Savannah and Virginia Tech prepared lunch for students at Garden City Elementary School on Thursday as part of Chef and Child Day.
The lunches were prepared following the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act guidelines.
Principal McCullogh said making sure the children eat healthy really impacts their work in the class room.
"When children have good nutrition, when they are eating healthy meals, they are able to focus on learning," said McCullogh. "Their brains are stimulated, and they are able to achieve at higher levels."
Many of the students said they really enjoyed the healthy meal which included chicken, macaroni and cheese and chocolate cupcakes.
