Athens State University Senior Art Show:

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Would you like to see where tomorrow's artists got their start? Then you need to be in Decatur at the Alabama Center for the Arts.

It's the annual senior art exhibition by senior students at Athens State University. Jennifer Bunnell is the coordinator for the center.

"We have over 50 pieces of artwork hanging in the gallery, and visitors will see charcoal drawings, photographs, oils," said Bunnell.

There are pencil sketches, and more along a desolate highway to ominous visions and familiar landscapes. She says people are welcome to view the showing during the schools regular business hours. "Which are 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and we do close at noon on Friday. People are welcome to tour the building, see the classrooms. See what we have to offer."

It's been said that art is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes it can be something as simple as a photograph of a reflection in a watery pot hole.

Justin Lynch is a senior computer graphic design major who participated in the show. "This is part of our class in portfolio, studio and exhibit and we are required to do a senior show before we graduate." He said the students took some creative licence when it came to a name.  "...and since the date is March 2014 when we put the show on exhibit we decided to call the show Pi 3.14."  He told us about one of his exhibits.  ".....and this piece right here is set in the 1920's. I have the model wearing a flapper dress she wore to the great Gatsby film showing, and I set this in downtown Madison, outside of the historical district, and we had a candy shop as the back drop."

There is much to admire here from linier inspirations to blue libations. Even a tribute to the dog days of summer in Bobby's Bama.
