MAIT investigating multi-vehicle wreck on ACL Blvd.

SCMPD is investigating a three vehicle wreck that injured five people and closed down ACL Boulevard from McCleod Avenue to Fenwick Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

Metro responded to a vehicle accident in the Liberty City area at approximately 1:21 p.m.

A preliminary investigation showed that a City of Savannah Ford F-350 truck was struck by a Ford Windstar minivan as it was traveling south along ACL Boulevard.

The driver of the Windstar crossed into the southbound lane while traveling northbound and hit the driver's side of the F-350.

A Chevrolet Avalanche traveling behind the F-350 was hit by debris from the truck.

The driver of the Windstar was extricated from the vehicle with serious injuries and was transported to Memorial University Medical Center.

Drivers from the other two vehicles and two passengers were transported to Candler Hospital with minor injuries.

SCMPD's Major Accident Investigation Team, Precinct One patrol officers and both Southside and Garden City fire departments responded to the scene.

MAIT continues to investigate the incident.
