CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -

Camilla business owners are encouraging people to shop local this weekend.

Sixteen stores are going tax free Friday to draw in bargain shoppers from around South Georgia.

For the small, quiet town of Camilla, business owners say they have a lot to offer. And with spring in full swing, they're eager to get shoppers in their doors without leaving empty handed. Friday, for one day only, as soon as stores begin to open around 9:00AM, bargain hunters can shop their way through 16 stores downtown, tax Free.

"Well, we hope it just reiterates the fact to shop local," said Sarah Eubanks of Hodges Jewelers. "Easter is coming, and the spring is here, and so I hope people will come out and refresh their wardrobes, or find something for Easter baskets."

The participating store owners are discounting all items by seven percent since they legally have to pay all sales taxes to the state.

"Well especially on the higher end items is where you're going to see the biggest break," said Eubanks. The idea came from the French Market owner, who's successfully offered tax breaks for customers before.

Now that owners are teaming up, they say the deals are too good for South Georgia shoppers NOT to stop by, and support their community.
