SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Former Savannah-Chatham police detective Trina Mayes pleaded not guilty to seven counts of making false statements Thursday.

Mayes entered the plea to her attorney during an arraignment before a Chatham County Superior Court judge Thursday morning who said he was looking at August to set a trial date.

The indictment, returned by the Chatham County grand jury in February, charges Mayes with making false statements to investigators during the probe into allegations of corruption and misconduct within the department.

The allegations surround Mayes' alleged involvement with convicted felon William Lamont "Rocky" Sellers, as well as making false statements to Chief Julie Tolbert and City Manager Stephanie Cutter in an appeal hearing to try to keep her job.

Mayes, 34, who was also indicted under her maiden name of Trina Katrice Williams, remains free on a $6,500 bond.

Mayes next court appearance will be a motion hearing on July 1.
