Multiple local law enforcement agencies are investigating a robbery in Barnwell that could be related to an unsolved robbery in Aiken.
If you want to enter Local Finance in Aiken, you have to knock on the door and an employee will let you in. This safety measure was taken after employees were held at gunpoint Friday.
"They entered the Local Finance on York Street. One of them was armed with a handgun, forced their way into the business and held the clerks there at gunpoint while they received an undisclosed amount of cash," said Detective Jeremy Hembree with the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
The same thing happened at the Local Finance in Barnwell Wednesday morning. Three men walked into the loan office wearing black hoodies, white shoes, and their faces were covered with bandana-like cloths. Barnwell Police Chief Reuben Black believes the robbery was planned meticulously.
"Three of them fled on foot behind the business," Black said. "At this time we believe that they were picked up by another person in a vehicle close to the BP on Duarte Boulevard."
Barnwell investigators and Aiken Public Safety officers are working together to find out if the cases are connected and to bring the suspects to justice as soon as possible. Detective Hembree believes the suspects are a danger to the public.
"Anytime someone has a weapon on them, doesn't mind pointing it and putting it in individuals faces that they do not know, we consider them armed and dangerous," Hembree said.
Local Finance employees declined to comment on the incident. If you have any information on the robberies make sure you give Barnwell Police or Aiken Department of Public Safety a call.
