CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Folks in Cordele are getting ready to roll up their sleeves and pick up litter around the community.

Keep Crisp Beautiful is encouraging businesses and volunteers to come out for their big cleanup day April 9th. It's part of the Great American cleanup.

Organizers said a clean community attracts business.

"You know, when people come into a community and they say that there is lots of litter there, maybe they're less likely to spend money there," said Catherine Harrell, Keep Crisp Beautiful Executive Director. "They may not want to come and spend the day.  And if we can get it looking good, then maybe people will want to come out here.">

Harrell said volunteers typically fill about 60 bags of trash every year. She said the citywide cleanup helps kick off their adopt-a-highway program and other clean up events.
