Fleeing man crashes into tree

An Albany man attempting to run from Dougherty County Sheriff's Deputies crashed his car into tree just yards from his home.

Deputies say 29-year-old Michael Jackson was wanted for a probation violation.

About 8:00 Tuesday morning, Jackson's car hit a huge oak tree in the 800 block of West Residence Avenue, as he sped away from his North Harding home, when deputies went to arrest him.

"He ran a stop sign, making a right east bound on Residence and lost control of his vehicle.  Deputies really were not even in pursuit at that point, they were still getting back into their vehicles," said Captain Craig Dodd of the Dougherty Co. Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say Jackson also sped away yesterday when they first tried to serve an arrest warrant.

Jackson was treated at the hospital Wednesday, and is booked in the Dougherty County jail with several charges pending.
