ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A new report puts Georgia near the top of the list when it comes to water damage for homeowners.

State Farm Insurance says Georgia ranks 3rd in the nation in water related claims. The company processed more than 10,000 claims in 2013.

Experts say a lot of water damage is not preventable, but there are some things you can do.

"What you can control is maybe the amount of damage that occurs when the water damage happens," said President Jud Savelle of Bishop Clean Care. "Knowing how to shut of your water quickly is key to limiting the damage that happens to your home."

Experts recommend checking your ice maker line and washing machine hoses for cracks and replace them when necessary. They also remind everyone to take immediate action if water damage does occur.
